A Feast For The Senses-

Jun 3, 2024 | Delighting in God

“Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Psalm 34:8

Here we are back on the Blog on a Monday morning in rural Niagara.

Now I’m not sure about you, but it blessed us to taste and see God’s goodness in amazing ways this past weekend!

On Sunday we witnessed the baptism of a beautiful infant boy. What a joy to be part of this celebration! To see this precious life baptized into the covenant family, and all that means. He has an identity that no one can steal from him ever.

This past Saturday evening, some friends invited several couples over for dinner. They are wonderful host and hostess together. The guests enjoyed being treated to a lovely gourmet dinner. All enjoyed sweet fellowship and laughter.

Those are just two quick glimpses of what it means to taste God’s goodness. You will have your own list as long as you are grateful.

I spoke to someone over the weekend who cannot travel at this point in life. We discussed how you can enjoy God’s glorious creation just by taking a walk and taking time to smell the flowers. For those who have eyes to see the goodness of God is everywhere. Just everywhere!

King David penned the words of Psalm 34:8 as an expression of his deep love for God.

I once purchased a postcard with a photo of strawberries on it, with the words of Psalm 34:8 written on it. That postcard graced the face of our refrigerator for a long time. In fact, I’m not sure which wore out first the fridge or the postcard. It was a daily reminder to our family simply to be grateful for God’s goodness.

God is indeed a bountiful giver. He lavishes His love on us, so undeserving. He gives us grace daily to flourish in all seasons. We take notice, take comfort, delight ourselves in God’s goodness. It fills us to the brim and overflowing with gratitude and love for Him.

God’s goodness is like the sweetest banquet and we delight in His fare. We see it in the perfection in the tiny face of an infant, the tiny fingers and toes. Above all sweet fellowship with our Jesus fills the senses with a living faith, a comfort of soul, a living inward divine exchange as it is.

Try to explain what the soul tastes as it delights in God. One cannot. Each must taste and see for themselves.

God is the creator of all that is good. Evil comes not from Him, but from the devil.

The good Shepherd laid down His life for us.

Redemption and renewal are ours because God is good to us.

Grace-filled souls know the goodness of God.

Those who remain unchanged by God’s spirit will spit and choke at the thought of God’s grace and goodness.

The person who trusts in God is blessed indeed.

Taste and see the goodness of God as you go about this new week, and I will too.
