Carry Each Another’s Burdens-

Jun 4, 2024 | Encouragement

“Bear on another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galations 6:2

Last evening, my church held a Baby Shower for a young mom in difficult circumstances. What a remarkable evening. So many giving hearts helping someone else in a hard situation. The whole evening was a witness to God’s grace. The soon to be a first time mom walked away encouraged and showered with love.

Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be? No one should have to go it alone.

Sometimes we only need the reminder to help those struggling along the road.

Haven’t we all been there? In need of someone to come along and encourage us, I mean,

I remember standing alone in my life at one time. Someone truly perceptive came alongside me to offer understanding. I will never forget that. Gentle words and a grace-filled approach allowed me to fully trust this individual. If it wasn’t for that one person, I probably would have walked away.

What about you? Have you been down and out with nowhere to turn? Did those you thought would bear your burden turn on you?

If we are completely honest, we can all say we’ve been there. Alone. Deserted. Distraught. Feeling forgotten.

Perhaps you are one of the few who grace the planet that have never felt alone. Good.

How thankful the rest of us can be for the one person then who takes the time to help us carry our burdens. That one person who takes the time to listen, to consider, to evaluate, to weigh our thoughts and our concerns. The one caring heart that digs a little deeper to find truth. The one who helps us carry our load when it is backbreaking and heavy. That one who looks at the heart.

Equally important, however, is the act of bearing someone else’s burden. Have you done so? The Bible instructs us to do just that in Galations 6:2. If we are only ever unloading our cares and never reaching out and stooping down to assist others, we live a very self-focused life.

The Bible says we are to help others along the way. It doesn’t instruct us to make others help us each step of the way. Obviously, it will be a balance of both scenarios, but the giving should far outweigh the taking.

As we give to others and assist them in carrying their load, we are fulfilling scripture, or as the Bible puts it, “fulfilling the law of Christ.”

As we see others bowed down with grief, sorrow, hardships, pain, financially distraught, emotionally empty, or ill-equipped to carry the burden of life’s cares, do we reach out in empathy? Do we say a kind word or give a gentle touch?

Perhaps we slough it off and carry on with “our “day. We know we can’t solve the world’s problems, but we can help just that one that God puts on our hearts to encourage.

What is on your agenda today?

As we offer ourselves to God’s service today, may His plan be our plan and might that include carrying someone else’s burden, if only for a mile.

With encouragement for your heart today,

Liz
