Children Are a Gift From God-

Jul 11, 2024 | Gratitude

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”‍
Psalm 127:3
“For you created my inner being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139: 13-14
“He took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed
them.”
Mark 10:16
‍“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I
appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5
“Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
Proverbs 17:6
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
3 John 1:4

It’s summer and perhaps you have been super busy with your children now home from School?

Maybe, like me, you have been enjoying having grandchildren over for a few days here and there.

Or maybe you are a teacher and now enjoying a summer vacation.

Do you have an infant at home and are wondering if you will ever experience summers like you used to?

Could it be that you have longed for children or grandchildren and God did not answer that prayer?

One thing is sure, the Bible clearly tells us God loves children, and He created us, His children, with great thought.

In fact, His thoughts towards us (about us) are like the sand on the seashore: infinite.

My aunt and uncle could not have biological children. They adopted six children and loved them as their own. My aunt also started a Vacation Bible School in her home for the neighbourhood children. Eventually, there were over 50 children attending, closer to eighty, I believe. My aunt and uncle had to add on to their home, and they did. Many individuals taught and attended this community, VBS. My Aunt won the citizenship award in her community. That was never her goal. She did the work out of her love for God and her love of children. Though God never gave her biological children, she had dozens who looked up to her as their mom or spiritual mom. See what God can do with a heart that loves children?

And Jesus loves children. He took them in His arms and blessed them. Jesus got angry when the disciples wanted to send them away. He taught us to love children, too.

We don’t do it perfectly like Jesus, but we need to nurture little hearts with tenderness and kindness.

It never ceases to amaze me that some people choose to be double income and no kids. That seems like a selfish lifestyle to me.

I attended college with a classmate who worked with children but didn’t want any of her own. That just didn’t jive in my mind.

Whatever sacrifices we make to have children, it is worth every single ounce of our energy, time, and resources.

That is just a synopsis of my beliefs and feelings towards loving children. I could go on longer but it is the end of the day so I’ll revisit this topic again.

Thankfully, Jesus redeems our mistakes as parents as we ask Him to. None of us is perfect, but we should aim to love like Jesus loves, especially children.

With gratefulness,

For our children,

Our grandchildren,

And all the children God has sent my way to mentor.

It has been a rich and rewarding journey like no other.

What about you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section. Don’t be shy?

Liz.
