Clothed in Beauty

May 14, 2024 | Growing in God's Grace

“12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance
against someone.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
14 And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
Colossians 3:12-14

Once in a while, you read a chapter of the Bible that reminds you that a perfect world is possible if we all listened to the words. If we lived them out and asked for God to help us live them out, we certainly would live in a better world.

By, God’s grace, Christians receive power to live these words out that is the beauty within the beauty.

How can we not long for a world where we live with compassion? Where people are kinder, filled with humility and gentleness? And where people get dressed with the virtue of patience along with these other qualities?

As we read through this beautiful chapter together last evening, I wanted to meditate on it longer. That is when I decided it was a good blog theme.

We can all become kinder, more compassionate, gentler, patient, and more humble as we go to God daily for help and power to live righteously. He does not leave us without hope. We can all grow more Christ-like.

As you and I meet people daily sometimes a certain quality stands out.

Sometimes a mean spirit fills the atmosphere. You can sense it as you speak to the person.

Other times, you get blown away by a gesture of kindness or gentleness a person does.

You sense an inherent goodness in certain individuals. When this is true it feels like you can trust that person.

It amazes me as I look across the fields and forests how God plants beauty everywhere.

He does that inside of us too as we go to Him to clothe us.

Do we want to be more Christ-like, gentle, humble? Or do we think being aggressive and pushy will help us win our daily battles?

May we all desire to err on the side of submission to God’s virtues.

As we put our feet on the floor, may it be our first prayer that God clothe us for the day.

One step into the garment of honesty, one step further into courage, love, empathy, charity, generosity and charity. This kind of clothing decks us out in the finest of garments.

We can choose to wear quality clothing or rags. Which one will it be? Are we seeking to be clothed in Designer Clothing? We need to seek God’s heart, His ways, and His virtues above all. Then we will walk with dignity and honour as we make this our life goal.

Each day we need to go to God for an infilling of the Holy Spirit and as we do His light will shine from the inside to the outside.

How the world needs to see this kind of unfading beauty.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.”
Proverbs 31:25
