Enjoying Life-

Jul 9, 2024 | Encouragement

“So I commend the enjoyment of life,
because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad.
Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 8:15

Are you a person who takes time to enjoy life? Even the small things?

Do you take the time to smell the roses, to see the beauty that surrounds you in the chaos?

I am thankful for parents who had a zeal for living and took the time to teach us to laugh and have fun!

Might be I inherited some of that zeal along with my spirited siblings.

Regardless if our parents modeled this or not, it is never too late to learn to really enjoy life.

Life is a celebration to enjoy, to have fun, to mingle with others in laughter, and delight!

Now I realize often we get bogged down in our work, worries, and weariness. Yet Solomon, the wisest man to live, commended the enjoyment of life!

When we had little children, life was so busy, but doing special things like day trips, or campfires, sports events together, or visiting friends and having huge Birthday Celebrations all broke up the monotony of daily living and feeling weary.

Be creative to come up with ways to celebrate life!

I remember one book (maybe it was a Dr. James Dobson book) saying instead of purchasing that new carpet, pay for a babysitter and go out together! I think that was good advice. It’s all about priorities. Allowing yourself to enjoy life no matter what season of life you are in!

King Solomon offered another tidbit of advice in:

Ecclesiastes 9:9-10(a)
9 Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love,
all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—
all your meaningless days.
For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…

Perhaps you, as a reader, are not married. Enjoy life anyway. The ways to enjoy life come in myriads of ways! If you are uncertain, ask God for ideas when you pray? As a single person perhaps you have more opportunity to read or to travel the world than if you are busy raising a family? Joining a photography class or whatever your interests are?

My husband and I are in a stage of life where we can work hard when we want to and have fun in balance.

We are done with raising our family. It was downright hard work while we did it, but the rewards are so worth it. Now we are enjoying our grandchildren immensely. In fact, I didn’t get to the blog today, until now because I was busy at a family member’s home at 6:30 a.m. Sure! Life is a celebration of family and the joys of family.

As I write, we await our grandson’s arrival.

On the weekend we went e-biking in Elora and to a wedding. The next day we biked from Port Dover to Waterford and back. Yesterday we enjoyed boating to cool off in the evening on Lake Erie.

The dog days of summer sunshine, beautiful weather, and the abundance of activities we can indulge in are there for the taking to enjoy!

Here’s the thing… it doesn’t have to cost much to enjoy life. A simple walk in nature, a bike ride down the boulevard or down a beaten path, a coffee on the front porch listening to the birds sing.

Just get out there and choose to enjoy life!

It’s God’s Word to you and I today.

May God grant you a spirit of exuberance to truly enjoy the life He has given you along with His magnitude gifts of love.

With joy,

And exuberance…

Liz
