So if the Son sets
you free, you will
be free indeed.
John 8:36

Today marks July 3, 2023.

Two days ago, Canada celebrated her 156th birthday.

On July 1st, 1867, Canada became a new federation with its own constitution, known as the “British North America Act.”

They amended the constitution through the United Kingdom Parliament.

In 1982, full transfer of control from being a self-governing British Colony to a totally independent Federation transpired.

Now our government solidifies changes to amend our Charter of Rights.

That thought can frighten you if you take your eyes off God’s sovereignty.

We celebrate Canada Day annually, and the Government has marked it as a federal statutory holiday.

On July 1, 1867, John A. MacDonald became the first Prime Minister of Canada.

Many people celebrate Canada Day with BBQs, lawn parties, fireworks, and parades.

I have fine memories growing up celebrating my dad’s and beginning in 1985, my husband’s birthdays each year on July 1st. It is incredible these Birthdays ended up on the same day. Amazing grace!

Now our Dad celebrates in heaven and our Grandson added to the family fold just last year on June 30th, celebrates with my husband, and the rest of us on July 1st! It’s a tradition.

This calls for a family gathering with a potluck lunch each summer.

Sometimes I miss our dad’s advice and I really wonder what he would have to say about the political state of our country. He would have words of wisdom, I am sure.

My husband’s advice is very solid and I appreciate his viewpoints immensely, and always have, though sometimes I like to challenge his views just for a good argument. He knows that and doesn’t take offense, thankfully.

I remind myself if I want to know true wisdom above all, I must look to the Bible for truth.

Therefore, I will write about “freedom” during the month of July. Perhaps we could all use a refresher?

The USA will celebrate “freedom” tomorrow.

What does “freedom” mean for both Canada and the USA in 2023?

We have taken our eyes off the truth.

Since we have taken our eyes off God, truth no longer prevails.

Where are Canada and USA headed?

Without sounding dismal, I would hasten to say that unless we have a reformation of sorts and a return to godly principles, we are headed down a slippery slope and fast.

Since we built Canada on true “freedom” I will focus on “freedom” in Christ until the day I leave this earth and the country of my birth.

I choose freedom in Christ, freedom from slavery of sin, freedom to choose my religious convictions and not be bowled over by the opinion of the day, namely woke beliefs, which seek to suppress all others.

For true freedom to rule we need to see woke ideology for what it is.

This belief system has nothing to do with forgiveness. It has everything to do with death.

This death is the death of our culture. A mockery of Christian values and beliefs. Sadly, it is the decay of all we have held to be true over the past 156 years of our beloved nation, Canada.

The nation that refuses to be governed by morals and values that have blessed our country for so long will eventually crumble.

God blesses a country that serves Him and follows in obedience to biblical truth.

We read that truth in Psalm 33 verse 12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.”

In the end we “reap what we sow.” We all know what that means.

For the month of July we will dig into the theme of “freedom”.

I will glean wisdom from the ultimate manual for living the Bible.

As Canadians and Christians, can be thankful that the ultimate standard, God’s Word, is the supreme and absolute authority in everything, including our nation’s freedom.

To conclude, here are the official original lyrics to the National Canadian Anthem-
Oh Canada
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons’ command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Those words need to be imprinted on the heart of every Canadian once more.
Conclusion.
