Good Gifts

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and comes down from the Father of lights…”
James 1:17

On the weekend past many celebrated Mother’s Day. What a wonderful occasion to celebrate the gift of mother’s and family.

If you are like me, you took some time to reflect on the gift God gave you in your Mother.

Perhaps your mom has passed away and is no longer here to celebrate with you?

That is the case with me, too.

We can still thank God for the good qualities and virtues our loved one left as a legacy.

Maybe your memories aren’t very positive, that is the case for many.

There must be positives to hold on to? Did your mother teach you how to work hard?

Was she an excellent cook? Did she teach you to laugh?

As you search for the positive and cling to that, you can be thankful. Even in hardships, it is possible to have turned to God for strength. That is a good outcome of hardship.

If your mom was not loving and kind, what do you have today in your life to be thankful for?

Perhaps God has blessed you with beautiful children, or a meaningful line of work in which to serve Him and others?

My mom passed away in 2021. Our moms will not be there forever. We need to cherish what the Father of heavenly lights has given us in the gift of a godly mom.

I did not want to dwell on losses on Mother’s Day. I don’t think my mom would have wanted that.

So I kept busy.

Maybe you did the same thing?

It was a rainy day, but we huddled together indoors, sharing fellowship and imperfect love.

We enjoyed the company of two little grandchildren overnight.

And I know that is the secret to being happy on Mother’s Day.

For many, it brings up grief or sad memories.

Others, though, can appreciate a good and loving mom, or the memory of her.

That is God’s wonderful gift from above. A loving mom.

Cherish the memories or make it your goal to be that person.

Reach out to those who need a mentor. Someone who needs a good and godly mother figure. So many need that.

Our mutual goal can be to become a positive, godly force for good in the lives of the people God has put before us.

Naturally there will be glitches. There is, after all, no such thing as a perfect Mom, a godly mom though, yes.

For those of us gifted with the title of mom, remember that perfect gift is from God.

Let’s treat it as a gift and treasure what God has given us from above.

My brother posted these well-known words on our Family App on Mother’s Day.

Reflect on them with me?

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Proverbs 31:30, 28.
