Holy Spirit Power

When the day of Pentecost came,
they were all together in one place.
Suddenly, a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven
and filled the whole house where
they were sitting.
Acts 2:1-2
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Acts 4:31.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
John 14:26
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.
John 14:16
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized,
every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38
Till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field,
and the fertile field seems like a forest.
Isaiah 32:15

It seems there is such a grab for power in many spheres of the world today.

And I suppose it has always been that way.

Yet what if everyone was hungry for the power of the Living God?

I’m not sure what your weekend was like, but on this end it was action packed from the get go.

It was a blessing to me to witness my niece and her husband baptize their little newborn baby girl.

Being part of this reminded me of the privilege it is to be part of God’s family.

It was Pentecost Sunday as well.

And as I reflect on the meaning, I couldn’t help but share a few Bible Verses about Pentecost.

Included are quite a few amazing Bible Verses about the Holy Spirit’s power, but here is one personal favourite:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8.

What if everyone grabbed for the Holy Spirit’s power to make the world a better place? To reach others with the good news of Jesus Christ?

Do you remember learning that the Holy Spirit gives you the power to live well?

It was a breakthrough concept for me long ago. But I still believe I don’t ask God for His power to live well often enough. Some days, we just get going and forget to ask for God’s empowerment. What a grievous mistake. We need His power and grace to live right every day of our lives!

All seven Bible Verses about the Holy Spirit listed above are profoundly rich and amazing.

Yet to conclude this brief article, let us look at another favourite…

“Till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field,
and the fertile field seems like a forest.”
Isaiah 32:15

Perhaps you, like me, are a farmer’s daughter?

If that is the case, you will appreciate Isaiah 32:15.

Maybe you treasure the Bible Verse, regardless. That is great.

Perhaps you noticed the farmer’s tilling the rough ground early last week?

As they worked up the soil, the dust flew, and crops were planted. The fields took on a new look.

Instead of barren land, a fertile looking field came into view. Now, just a week later, the corn seeds are popping their little green heads up. Such a joy watching new life spring up!

It must be this gives God joy too, as we grow in His life giving Spirit?

And soon that fertile field will look like a forest of corn stalks.

It is just so with us. We who were once dry without God’s Spirit in us become a fertile field, and then as we grow in Christ’s grace and power, we look more like a mature forest beautiful to behold.

Who wouldn’t want this kind of power in their lives?

More on this compelling topic tomorrow.
