In My Father’s House

Feb 7, 2024 | Encouragement

“Let not your hearts be troubled.
Believe in God; believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many rooms.
If it were not so, would I have told
you that I go to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and will take you to myself,
that where I am, you may be also.”
John 14:1-3

Some Bible Versions read, “In my Father’s house are many mansions…” (John 14:2)

Either way, we get the point. In God’s house, our eternal home, heaven, there is lots of space.

For you and for me as we believe. Think about how much space there must be if those we loved who have passed on before us live there, along with all the saints of old written about in God’s Word. On top of that all the many people we don’t even remotely know around the world who were Christians, and are Christians, and who will someday live there forever with Jesus!

Perhaps that is why the song “By the Sea of Crystal” touches the hearts of so many believers. We know our loved ones are waving palms of victory and are at home in that big eternal mansion with the God of the Universe!

For those who think God is not loving think again!

He invites us to receive the gift of life as a free gift of grace by believing in Jesus. There are no other requirements except to repent and believe.

After that God puts a desire in our hearts to live for Him, to do things His way, to do good things out of gratitude for what we’ve been given.

Our LORD does not want our hearts to be troubled either. He says so right there in John 14:1. Here He reassures us that as we believe in Him, He has prepared a home for us in heaven for eternity. We will live there with Jesus and His Father and all the host of heaven.

I can only imagine! And read beautiful promises from God’s Word like John 14 or Revelations 5 or 21. Those are good thoughts to dwell on as you think about a better place to be. Or where your loved ones are as believers.

Today marks three years that my Mom has been in heaven with Jesus. She loved John 14, and it gave her so much peace in her days on earth. She was a worrier by nature. God reassured her much through His Word. God blessed her with 90 years of living.

It took a while but I am not sad anymore over her passing though I will always miss her deeply. I am thankful she is at home with Jesus in a better place. I regret she had to live her last days on earth in the Hospital during Covid. This is something our family will always regret that, but we have come to terms with. It is the broken world we live in until we get to heaven our perfect eternal home.

Hold on to that hope and I will too. Perhaps you are mourning deeply a loved one, or at peace now with their departurer but you still miss them? Either way may these words encourage you much and give you hope as well as me.

Today I am going to do something positive that God has put in my life. My husband and I are going to stay with three or our granddchildren overnight.

What kind of good thing can you do as you reflect on your losses?

“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands,

and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and elders.

In a loud voice they were saying”:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength

and honour and glory and praise!”

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth

and under the earth and on the sea, and all

that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honour and glory and

for ever and ever!”

Revelations 5:11-13

“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people,

and God himself will be with them and be their God.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

There will be no more death or mourning, or crying, or pain,

for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21:2-4
