My Soul Finds Rest in God Alone

Aug 24, 2023 | Encouragement, Hope

My soul finds rest in God alone.
My salvation comes from Him.
Psalm 62:1

For the month of August, we have been reflecting on the theme of “rest.”

From Monday to Friday each week, I have selected one Bible Verse per day to write about and share with my readers.

I hope this has been a blessing to you, dear reader.

Sometimes I have struggled to come up with a Bible Verse to write about. As I pray, though, God supplies what He wants.

This past weekend my husband and I had the opportunity to visit to his parents’ gravesite. We live a ways away, so we can’t go there often.

When we arrived, we easily located the stone. Disappointment met us when we saw the abundance of rainfall had dampened things, and moss was growing on the gravestone. However, we were more than encouraged when we reread the words our Mom had chosen for the tombstone. They are the words of Psalm 62 verse 1.

And that is the legacy they left us. An inheritance of faith in the living God, how beautiful.

I believe those words are so comforting to all who believe in God. For where can we find our rest that satisfies but in God alone? Only God can calm the soul. Only God can satisfy the soul. And only God can give us rest.

Do you find that true also? Does God’s Word resonate deep in the recesses of your soul? Is He the core of your being, your reason for living and dieing?

Both sets of our parents have lived and died on the earth. Their time here is no more. And yet, because of God, their souls find rest forevermore. Rest in the presence of Jesus in heaven, the perfect home for all those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and LORD.

Both of our family homes were not nearly perfect, but the Saviour who led our parents and our families is perfect. And He gives us perfect peace here and for eternity. We find our rest in Him alone. And the Saviour of our souls has redeemed anything that was marred by sin.

Isn’t it the same for you and me as we live day to day on our earthly pilgrim journey? We live with faith; we falter and fail and, yes, our salvation comes from God alone. None of our own actions can save us. Not one of our deeds can earn us salvation. Our perfection or imperfections can not save us. Our redemption is in God alone. He earned it for us. Not one deed done in faith will save us. Our works are like filthy rags, and yet we wear a robe of righteousness with royal blood in us because the King of Kings and Lord of Lords saved us!

We had the beautiful blessing of visiting with our loved ones on this weekend past. Friends and family who live miles away. We don’t get to see them as often as we like, but they have a place in our hearts forever. There was a time of rest there amongst the family, though it was a few days packed with activities. We are brothers and sisters in heart and mind because we follow Jesus. Our common thread is the desire to live and die for God’s glory. As one dear friend pointed out, we are on the same journey. A journey towards eternal rest in Jesus Christ in our perfect heavenly home.

MY SOUL FINDS REST IN GOD ALONE. MY SALVATION COMES FROM HIM.
PRAISE THE LORD OH MY SOUL.
