Overflow With Hope

May 5, 2023 | Hope

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

A beautiful thing happens when the believer turns to Jesus and trusts.

It fills our lives to the brim with hope, joy and peace, as we turn to God.

When situations arise that are upsetting, overwhelming, or even hurtful, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus.

As we turn our hearts to God in prayer and seek His Word to us in Scripture, we find our hearts and minds renewed.

Since we are human, and with many needs, we must keep turning to Jesus.

We lose our peace quickly, our joy rapidly and our hope evaporates when we take our eyes off of Jesus.

The key is we must ask the LORD to fill us with hope, joy and peace.

This infilling of the Holy Spirit does not happen naturally.

We must ask, and ask again, daily for these virtues to fill our souls, minds, and hearts.

How have your days been going?

Are you persevering and getting through the day, but just barely?

Or are you truly empowered by the Holy Spirit by His grace?

We all have room to grow.

Sometimes it seems life’s happenings have filled us with anything but hope, joy and peace.

But then we are focusing on our circumstances, aren’t we?

We have to settle for the days when we feel weak and cling to the promise in 2 Corinthians 12:9: “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

The other option is not to look to Jesus for grace that is sufficient, and power that fills our spirits.

It is then that life would overwhelm us to the point of losing all hope, all joy, and any peace.

So each day, God can fill us with the Holy Spirit to overflowing.

Let us ask Him again and again and again to fill us.

The other option would be to become hopeless, joyless, and distraught.

Turn with me and ask to be filled, truly filled, to the brim with the goodness of God.

It will make all the difference.
