Rooted and Built up Overflowing in Thankfulness-

Apr 30, 2024 | Growing in God's Grace

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,
continue to live in Him,
rooted and built up in Him,
strengthened in faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with
Colossians 2:6-7

Yesterday was a beautiful Spring day!

Did you get outdoors for a bit?

Some days that is difficult since we are all so busy.

My husband and I fit in a bike ride in the late afternoon.

As we cruised around the block, there were many beautiful sights to behold!

The leaves are coming out early this year; the blossoms are at their peak, and on top

of all this the trilliums laced the countryside on the block west of us.

Dispersed among the thickets in little patches here and there, in the deep of the wildwood,

there the trillium roots itself and grows.

I always see the imagery between spiritual things and growing things. Do you see it too?

The little white trillium heads, and the rare, deep wine top, laced the forest.

There they rooted themselves, waiting for the warmth of the afternoon sunshine to cast its rays upon their growing roots and stems.

And I thought about our lives as believers, knowing it is true for us too.

We wait upon Jesus, our Lord, to root us and build us up as Christians.

As we do this, we get strengthened in the faith.

As we become rooted and built up in the place of God’s own choosing, the corner of His world were He has

planted us, we grow to be strong.

As this metamorphosis takes place, the result is a grounded and strongly rooted believer.

Our hearts overflow with thankfulness spilling out like a sunbeam on the forest floor.

We can’t stop the growth, we are simply a miracle in the making of our great Creator!’

Have you thought of yourself in that way before?

Your life is definitely being shaped and molded into a creation of His choosing.

The storms of life, the hard moments, the joy-filled celebrations, the monumental moments of exhilaration,

all this creates a palate on which God is painting His masterpiece.

The beauty of it is as we stay rooted in faith, we also grow closer to Jesus, loving Him and others as He would have us do.

Growing is a choice and a process of transformation.

Certain parts of creation show this well.

A forest may have looked sparse a few years ago, but as time goes on, shrubs and trees alike get bigger and taller year by year.

As Christians we grow in the graces of the Saviour, who loves us, becoming more like Him as the years fly by.

We grow in patience, kindness, gentleness, love, gratitude, and all the fruits God delights to bring into our lives by His Spirit. We have a choice to grow or to stay planted in a stagnant cesspool of muck.

As we cooperate with the Holy Spirit, our relationships become alive and thrive. Our whole lives get affected for good.

And without even being aware of when it happened, we realize our hearts are overflowing with love divine, and gratitude deep and impenetrable.

Nothing can stop the heart that overflows to the brim with thankfulness.

May His love shine upon you today, and may it cause you to grow, along with me. The best is yet to be with God at our right hand, today and always.

For His glory as always.
