Rooted in Christ and Overflowing in Gratitude

May 28, 2024 | Gratitude

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,
continue to live your lives in him,
rooted and built up in Him,
strengthened in the faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:6-7

As I write this morning, I cast my glance out the living room window. I see flowers and beauty. Beyond that, my eyes take in greenery as far as the eye can see. Farmers have planted a new corn field this month just across the road. In the past two weeks, roots have taken hold and vegetation breaks forth from the freshly cultivated ground. The plants are growing by leaps and bounds.

We must become firmly rooted in God’s Word as people of faith to become fruitful. As we operate our lives in the Holy Spirit’s power, our roots will grow deep. We need to grow firm roots in Christ. He establishes us and helps us to mature, to keep growing for Him.

Let us persevere in faith and make God the joy of our hearts all the days he gives to us.

As we receive Christ into our hearts, He becomes real to us. His Spirit lives in us and fills us and we live rooted in His ways. Our souls become satisfied with the richest of fare.

As Christians, we become strengthened in the faith, as God’s Word teaches us. He becomes the anchor of our souls. Nothing can shake us as we stay rooted in Him. We may encounter trials and hardships, but our anchor holds us fast. His life giving Spirit living in us gives us stability.

God roots us, strengthens us, and holds us in place in life as Christians. As a result, our lives overflow in gratitude. When we could be impatient, our lives reflect a calmness, as we stay rooted in Christ. If we encounter things or people that upset us, we try to remain even-tempered. Overall, we live with gratitude and it gets reflected in our actions towards others.

Might I ask how you show gratitude in your life?

We must ask ourselves this question to keep ourselves on track. It is so easy to slip into complaining or acting impatiently as we wait on God in our various life scenarios.

A thankful person recognizes God as the source of all the blessings and gifts they have in life. As believers, our gratitude overflows in a myriad of ways for His amazing grace to us! Our most blessed gift of all is Jesus Christ our Saviour. Oh, how our hearts become filled when Christ is the centripetal force.

Thankfulness changes our perspective in life. Instead of focusing on the negative, we look at things from a biblical perspective, which always gives us hope. We experience deep gratitude for the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Which one of us could be grateful as we face grief, disappointment, or pain? Only the one rooted and grounded in Christ. By His grace alone helping us.

What can we do today, dear reader, to show our overflowing gratitude?

For me, I will try to be patient and not complain, not even one bit.

What about you?

May we worship our Lord Jesus as we go about our duties today, whether listening to worship music as we work, or doing something kind to the people God puts on our pathway. If we are short on ideas, we can always go to God in prayer to show us the way to show thankfulness in our lives.

May our Tuesday overflow to the brim with thankful hearts spilling over with gratitude to God.
