“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden,
or under a bowl.
Instead, he puts it on its stand,
so that those who come in may see the light.”
We are in the throes of winter now as the mid-January days loom ahead. In Ontario snow storms have encompassed our surroundings.
After a week away we ventured out into the howling winds and freezing temperatures awake to the reality we came home to.
With thankfulness we woke up to a new day, with sunlight brilliant against the blanket of crisp white woolen snow.
There is something about light that draws us.
We noticed that one evening last week as we ventured out to see the city of Naples, nestled on the southwest coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.
Everything was aglow with millions of lights and sights. The lights and light drew people, brilliant illumination added to the festivities of dining outdoors, sightseeing, gazing and gaping at the Art Shops on 5th Avenue.
But nothing can compare to the light of life, which Christians celebrate three hundred and sixty-five days a year! Jesus Christ is the light of the world, regardless if people acknowledge this truth.
And for the Christian, Christ lives in us. We are His temple. His light radiates from us and in us and to us. We can not help but shine for His glory!
It is a joy to share the gospel with those hungering for light.
Christ’s followers share the light, share the joy, and experience fulfillment in doing so! We can not hide it under a bushel or a bowl, or a cloak. No, wherever we go, we illuminate Christ’s Spirit! Or so we should as Christians.
In this dark world, full of brokenness, full of sin, full of pain, we offer hope and light and an answer to the emptiness.
We put Christ on a stand where He belongs. We do not fear what man can do to us. It is in us to give life and help and hope.
Sometimes we hunger for physical light. Perhaps we travel for miles to get a small taste. We flock with others to see the lights.
Yet nothing fills us, nothing at all but the light of Christ within.
Perhaps you are searching for light in the darkness? Are you stumbling through life, looking for hope?
Maybe you feel broken and are hurting inside?
Look up, dear one. Look up and let Christ’s light shine into the depths of your being.
Ask Christ to fill your life with hope and to take control of your destiny. What have you got to lose in this otherwise dark world?
None of us needs to travel to find light. There is more than enough light to fill the heavens and the earth. There is so much light none of us can grasp it yet.
The God of the Universe will forever illuminate one day for those who will bow the knee to Jesus. God will forever shine on us in heaven. If you doubt that, think again.
“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” Revelation 21:23.
The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, we celebrate at Christmas and all year round; He is our light and life.
Let us soak in that light today and every single day of 2024!
Please Note- After taking a three-week hiatus to get recharged in my writing, it is a blessing to be back at it again.
I have decided for the rest of the month of January to write daily about a different Bible Verse to give the Blog some variety. Whatever Bible Verse God places on my heart for the day, I will share some reflections with you.
I hope it will encourage you to be reading along again.
And may we experience the light and life that is ours in Christ.
