Thankful For Our Father-

Jun 14, 2024 | God's Love

3 I thank my God every time I remember you.
4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:3-6

After another week that just flew by, how appropriate to end with a couple of Bible Verses about being thankful for “you.”

It is Father’s Day weekend and perhaps you too are grateful for the earthly father you had. And perhaps you are also grateful for the father of your children if that pertains to you? Maybe you are also thankful for your sons and that includes son-in-laws, who make super good dads.

Let us pray these words together, then shall we… I thank my God every time I remember you.”

In every situation we can pray in gratitude for our faithful, perfect, heavenly Father. As believers in Jesus Christ, we can celebrate the love of God, of Father’s Day weekend and every single day of the year.

Paul prays with joy for those he remembers in prayer. We would do well to do the same. That is a good focus heading into Father’s Day weekend. Perhaps your earthly father let you down? Are you grateful for a “spiritual father” or especially and above all your “heavenly Father?” Do you pray for joy as you reflect on those blessings? I need to remember that too.

Now the second half of the equation, or shall I say these Bible Verses…

Paul speaks to the Philippian Church, acknowledging that God, who began a good work in those believers, would also bring it to completion until they meet Jesus Christ. Those words written in 62 AD apply to us 1962 years later!

Yes, we are a WIP, Work in Progress. God is still working on you and me until the day we die. He is doing a good work inside us aren’t you thankful for that? As we submit to His will and His ways, He continues to carry out His good work to completion. Wow, what a concept. We lean on Him in prayer and He continues His good work in our lives and souls. What a reason to be grateful to our perfect Father!

Sometimes I get curious about what the future holds, don’t you?

One thing we may be confident of, and that is God’s purpose for us, won’t end until we take our last breath. He has something more in store as you give your life to Him daily. His purpose and plan are so much better than anything we could ever muster up.

So who are you leaning on and living for as you focus on the future? Might it be that you remain surrendered along with me to God’s plan for you? We can live with confidence and gratitude as we bow the knee to God’s purposes for us.

Blessed Father’s Day, weekend one and all, and let us together pray with joy in thankfulness for our heavenly Father’s perfect love.

For those of us who remember our earthly fathers with love, let us pray with joy for that, too.

In gratitude,

Liz
