The Bible Teaches Us to Fight-

May 31, 2024 | Encouragement

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7

Good morning dear reader.

It’s Friday already.

Perhaps you are heading outdoors today as I intend. Sunshine is streaming down, the grass is growing green.

Today I get to meander through the peony fields with our daughter and two of their children, then encourage our grandson, who broke his arm.

It has been a week that just seemed to fly by. Last evening I thoroughly enjoyed attending a “Book Reading Club” I belong to. Don’t worry, last week the flowerbeds got done, and the house is as clean as it can get for now. Take the time to smell the roses or, in this case, the peonies and always spend time with your loved ones. I picked a bouquet of peonies from our flowerbed a few days ago and the sweet fragrance has been wafting through our living room, bringing a delight to the senses with every step in their vicinity.

What is on your agenda? Are you going to enjoy life to the maximum, too?

This morning I pondered what to write.

The one thing that stood out is the Bible Verses about “fighting the good fight.” It seems like a scripture for life’s end, doesn’t it? But we are in the good fight of faith daily, right?

Now I don’t want to be negative, especially not on a Friday morning. And I am sure the title caught your attention. Didn’t your mom teach you “not to fight?” Ours sure did. Somehow, we regularly defied that wisdom, most likely daily. But here’s the thing. We always worked for peace afterwards and forgave each other as a family. And I hope you did the same. Where would we be without grace?

We can ponder together this morning what it means to fight the good fight. Did you catch that? It is a good fight. This one God has us in.

What does that look like for you? For me? For all of us who believe in Jesus Christ as our Captain.

Perhaps you are facing life alone, abandoned, or having lost a loved one? Or maybe you are dealing daily with a life altering illness? Are you struggling with an addiction? Living in rebellion with a load of guilt on your back? Do you have loved one’s fighting for their lives as they turned from the truth you once taught them? Is it the daily grind and maintaining your strength and joy in the Lord? Is this your fight? Each one of us has a different path, a specific journey, a God ordained fight to face in the days God grants us in life.

Spiritually speaking, we are all in a battle for our lives. God instructs us to fight. To keep on keeping on. He invites us to seek His face, His grace, His strength, His endurance, His fortitude.

One thing is sure, it is a good fight. The one God has marked out for us.

We can’t take life lying down. Just like a boxer, we have to get up and fight. Passivity has no place here. But unlike those family squabbles of the past, this fight is good. We are instructed to fight.

It is the fight of our lives and we stay abreast because we love God and we want to serve Him and say as Paul did when our days are done… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

May our Lord Jesus equip us in this fight today and always until our last breath.

Wishing you a blessed weekend and do take time to enjoy life?

Liz.
