Psalm 67 A Psalm. A Song.
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—
2 so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you.
6 The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.
Today is a good day to have a good day. In fact, to begin this good day, right let us praise the Lord together as we read this Psalm.
I figured we all need something light for today but something that truly honours God.
How has September been going for you? If it has been anything like mine, it has been very busy.
Yesterday I went to Bible Study exhausted because on Saturday we biked 22 kilometres, me with a bad knee.
Then on Sunday we had 15 guests over for a barbeque kick-off for our upcoming Bible Study.
On Monday morning I counselled/worked, in the afternoon we went to our daughters and babysat as she had a Doctor’s appointment for herself. Of course this meant a wagon ride and a walk through the grapevines, and acres of fall chrysanthemums, down the hill to the creek, and the kids climbing the enormous tree.
A fellow contractor invited my husband and our sons to go to Virgil for a week of Gospel Tent Meetings. So curious, we went that evening. Our sons were busy and so were we, but we went, anyway. My husband and I sat on card table chairs for over two hours, but I have to say we surely enjoyed the evening. Singing a cappella and listening to a good scripture message. We only will attend once. We met some fine people, mostly Mennonites and very gentle people, it seemed to me.
So that brings us to today.
I hope you don’t mind, but it seemed a good idea to me to focus on a beautiful and uplifting Psalm about praising our great God.
That brings us to Psalm 67.
Isn’t it the truth that God blesses us? He makes His face shine upon us in big ways and little ways, even a walk through the fields and you can feel God’s face shine upon you! Yes.
Today, I am so thankful that God rules the nations and guides them and rules people with equity. I had someone mention with great trepidation that this world has gone mad. It has, in some ways, but God still rules and He always will no matter who thinks they might rule.
Let us praise God anyway.
And here is the clincher for today… “THE LAND YEILDS ITS HARVEST; GOD, OUR GOD, BLESSESS US.”
One more reminder to you and me to be thankful for God’s blessings as we drive through the countryside of rural Ontario, or anywhere the crops are being harvested.
God is blessing us. Yes, He is!
Let us praise God together today, and it will be a good, good day as we go about with thankful hearts to the God of harvest, the God who takes care of us.
The God who is worthy of our praise, adoration, and thanks.
