The Light of the World

May 3, 2023 | Hope

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,
“I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12.

As I write this morning on the Blog, it is an encouragement to read the words of John eight verse twelve written above.

It seems life has a way of throwing curves at you. People you know, things that happen, can bowl you over when you think too much about them.

Life’s circumstances can sometimes overwhelm you. Sad things happen, and you wonder why, but God is sovereign and that will always be true.

The Bible reminds us that “But not a hair of your head will perish!” (Luke 21:18)

Every detail of your body and soul- even the hairs of your head! – is in God’s care. Not a hair can fall from our heads without the will of our Heavenly Father.

I belong to a Church where The Heidelberg Catechism is one of our key beliefs.

Here is the profound comfort in LORD’S DAY # 1: I have grown to love these words:

Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?
A. That I am not my own, 1 but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death,
2 to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.
3 He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
4 and has set me free from all the power of the devil.
5 He also preserves me in such a way
6 that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head;
7 indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.
8 Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life
9 and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.

2. Q. What do you need to know in order to live and die in the joy of this comfort?
A. First, how great my sins and misery are; 1
Second, how I am delivered from all my sins and misery; 2
Third, how I am to be thankful to God for such deliverance. 3

Whoever follows Jesus can turn their face towards Him for light in the darkness of hardships, death, unexplained suffering, trauma, war, and let His light shine in and shine down and shine into your soul to bring light into the darkness.

Because, dear reader, we live in a broken world where the enemy of our souls desires to kill, steal, and destroy.

But Christ brings abundant life and light to our situations and to our souls as we let Him in.

It is the only way to make sense of the darkness.

Let Christ’s light in.

Let Christ in.

Let Him help you make sense of things.

Seek Christ to bring life and light instead of dismal darkness.

For those who want to walk in light and not darkness, this is the only way.

Will you turn your face towards Him to bring you peace?

Shine Jesus shine,

Fill this land with the Father’s glory…

Flood the nations with grace and mercy

Send forth your word

Lord, and let there be light.

PRAYER-

I pray for each “Dear Reader” on the Blog here today LORD, that your light, love and mercy will fall afresh on them.

May your words here bring encouragement and peace to their soul.

And may it be that Your light shining forth and radiating within may help those who are broken and hurting to be filled again with the light of life in JESUS.

Fill us LORD, fill us with the LIGHT OF LIFE.

In JESUS NAME. AMEN.
