The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5

There is a complex yet beautiful Bible Verse found here. If you want to understand who Jesus is, study these verses right here.

We often recommend the book of John as a beginning place in the Bible for new believers.

The opening verse John 1:1, is profound… “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Can you grasp that truth with me? The Bible describes Jesus as “The Word” and He existed before time began. He is now and then and ever shall be. He was co-existent with the Father then and ever shall be.

One thing is clear: the divine status or deity of Christ is being clearly declared here. He is the everlasting God.

From all eternity, Jesus was with God. He is the second person of the trinity.

The Ancient Greek word for Word is Logos. Jews and Greeks recognized it as having profound meaning.

The Author of the book of John (John the Baptist) instructs about who Christ is in John 1.

I like how Matthew Henry describes John 1:1. He says, “The plainest reason the Son of God is called the Word, seems to be, that as our words explain our mind to others, so was the Son of God sent in order to reveal the Father’s mind to the world.”

Don’t you love that? So personal is our great God! One reason God sent Jesus was to help us understand the Father’s mind to us! Wow. If you never thought of God as a personal God, rethink that thought?

As we read further in John 1:4, John teaches us that in Jesus’ life, we have life. This life is the LIGHT of all humanity!

If only everyone could grasp that concept. God has given us life and light in Christ as Christians. We need to pray that our eyes and those of others perceive this Light and walk in this light. We are children of light as believers. As we believe in Christ as our light in life and our life in life, we believe in faith that our salvation rests in Christ alone.

To end today, let us hold the concept that John 1:5 teaches us…

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Christ’s light shines in the darkness of this sometimes evil world.

No matter what happens in life, the darkness (Satan and his cohorts) can NOT overcome the light.

Hold that thought and I will too. It is profound. Nothing can dispel the darkness except Christ Jesus, who is our light and life.

Whatever you go through today or on any day, look up, dear one, look up to the light of Christ. Let His light fill your soul and cleanse you of all unrighteousness. Look to His light to dispel the gloom, despair, heartaches, and pain. He will bring His light to shine down upon you and lift you out of the darkness. I will do the same. We need His light and life. We need Christ.

There is no other way to be saved but in Christ.
