True Light Gives Light

Nov 24, 2023 | Hope

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
John 1:9-13

As we study John chapter one, further, we hear the good news that true light was coming into the world. This light would give light to everyone.

Jesus walked this earth, having created this earth. Yet the world at large did not realize or believe this was the Messiah! Only those who believe in Jesus can claim Him as their Saviour.

The Jewish nation to whom Jesus was born into did not receive Him as their Messiah. They were God’s own people and yet… they did not receive their King! Today there are those both Jew and Gentile who have believed. Yet many have not.

“Faith is described as ‘receiving’ Jesus. It is the empty cup placed under the flowing stream…” (Spurgeon.)

Those who receive Christ as Saviour and believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God! How exciting! To think as we believe we are God’s little ones, God’s children. This is a term of endearment. It is acknowledgement of belonging. Our new identity is adoption into God’s family! This is our newborn right from God. We are born of God! What an exceptional identity!

If your parents have ever rejected you, cling to your new identity in Christ.

Perhaps you don’t value yourself as a person. God’s Word is to be believed over our own lowly opinion of ourselves and others.

Sometimes a person may have experienced being ridiculed by their earthly parents or others all of their lives. Or perhaps you have physical or emotional limitations, limitations of any kind. Or perhaps you learned to think lowly of yourself in life. Well, these Bible Verses are here to teach us we are children of light, children of God, adopted into God’s family.

You belong, and you are someone. You are God’s child, God’s little one. God’s cared for. God’s chosen. Let no one, including yourself, talk yourself down. Don’t we all need to practise this? So easily we think negatively about ourselves. Here, God shows us we should not do that as children of light!

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour in life, then walk in light. We should have a positive outlook on ourselves and others as much as possible. Naturally, this will take work. As we walk in the light of Christ, we aim to look for light, goodness, and all things positive. The opposite is to dwell in misery, dark thoughts, and a miserable negative outlook.

If you and I struggle in this area, which we all do sometimes, we need to spend time with Jesus and ask Him to help us be generous in our thoughts towards others. The more positive we see our world because of Christ, the more we can sincerly share the light of Christ.

As we repent of sin, God cleanses our slate and we walk in light with ourselves and others.

Let’s reach for the sky, reach for the light, and aim for living in Christ’s light?

Wishing you a light and bright and cheerful Friday!

May Christ’s light shine from you towards others, and may it bear witness to His name.

Along with that may you present yourself positively to a watching world. You never know who might come to live for Christ because you bear witness to His light.

P.S… Today we are lighting up our home with our Christmas decorations. Not so we can outdo the neighbourhood (I’m not Martha Stewart!) but so we can remember and dwell on CHRIST’S light.

Sure, we can do that without lights but without getting too secular. The birth of CHRIST is cause for CELEBRATION! We mark birthdays of our own in a special way. Why wouldn’t we celebrate for our dear Jesus?

Let’s light up the world for Jesus!!!!!
