Wonderful Counsellor

Feb 28, 2024 | Growing in God's Grace

When the Counsellor comes, who I will end to you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father,
he will testify about me.
And you must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
John 15:26-27

In John 15, Jesus is telling his disciples about the Holy Spirit, who will come after He goes to heaven.

The Counsellor, or Holy Spirit, would then be with them to guide and lead.

There are six chapters in the book of John before we learn what happens.

As believers, many know Acts 1:8 by heart. If not, and that is okay. I encourage you to do a study of that Bible Verse to coincide with the teaching of today.

These words tell us what happens as described in the Bible Verses above.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth.”

As the disciples did, we also receive power, power, power when the Holy Spirit lives in us!

The power is not that of a cartoon character, a certain vitamin, a mega caffeine laden latte, it is the power of the living God!

As a young Christian, I didn’t get that. I never understood until I was older what the Spirit of the Living God can do inside of you to bring the truth of God’s Word on the inside of our souls. How the Holy Spirit fills us with power, fortitude, ability, love, grace, and conviction of sin.

As we grow in faith, as we understand what the power of the Holy Spirit does inside of us!

We long to tell others about Jesus and the freedom that comes from following Him and serving Him wholeheartedly with our lives!

I remember eagerly soaking up books and learning about what the Holy Spirit does in our lives. I gently encourage you to do the same. We need to ask God for discernment as we choose which books are Biblically based.

When we lean on the Holy Spirit’s power in us, the goal of our lives becomes to seek after things that please God.

There is comfort in knowing Jesus lives on the inside of us. The Holy Spirit living in us means we are never alone. Christ is with us every moment. We just need to grasp that concept.

The Holy Spirit is also known as the “Comforter.” We all need comfort in life. Do we draw our comfort from the wonderful Counsellor who lives on the inside of believers?

Our Lord Jesus instructed His disciples to “testify” about Him.

Believers learn from these words of instruction.

With confidence and courage we to teach and witness to others about Jesus through the Holy Spirt.

We understand what Christ has done for us, and we long to share the good news with others.

How the body of Christ grows and grows and grows as we live out this truth.

May we all witness for Christ as we bear His name Christian.

It is a joy to serve Him through the power of the Holy Spirit!
